Page 55 – World War 2, rationing and Ronaele

World War II we all had to have ration books.  We had to give stamps for sugar, cheese, meat etc also for shoes.  If we used all the stamps before the month was up we had to do without.

rationingWe also were all good patriots, we smashed all our tin cans and there were collected to be used, I think for bullets.  We had to pull black shades on our windows at night and cars had to have the top half if the headlights or the car lights painted black.

Ronaele was born during the war.  One month when we went to the ration board for our book of coupons the women there saw that I was pregnant and she said “if you have a girl why not name her Eleanor backwards – that’s how we named Ronaele.
